Explore Legazpi and Sorsogon
Mount Mayon is the most photographed volcano in the Philippines, and Legazpi sits in its shadow. From there, this trip moves south into Sorsogon, where whale sharks gather in Donsol from November through June. The pairing of volcano and ocean makes this one of the more dramatic landscapes in the country.

Things Worth Knowing
Whale sharks are wild animals, and a sighting is never guaranteed. The peak season runs February through May, when sightings are most reliable, but even then there are days with no encounter. We're honest about this in advance.
Mount Mayon is an active volcano and access to its slopes depends on the alert level set by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). If the level rises during your trip, the ATV portion may be replaced with another activity at no cost.
The road between Legazpi and Donsol is paved and reasonable, but it is a transfer day, not a sightseeing day.
Cancellations within ninety days of departure are not permitted. Rates are per person, based on double occupancy, and subject to change.
Where you stay
Legazpi has a few well-run hotels with views of Mount Mayon, which is what you came for. In Sorsogon, the accommodation near Donsol is simpler — small resorts and lodges close to the river — but they're the right call for the whale shark experience. We match the right ones to your trip.
Arrival in Legazpi
Pickup at Legazpi airport, with Mayon visible from almost the moment you land. Check-in at the hotel, then a drive to Cagsawa Ruins in the late afternoon, when the light is best on the volcano. The bell tower is the only thing left of a church buried by an eruption in 1814. A useful starting point for understanding the place.
ATV and Mayon
A morning ATV ride through the lava fields on Mayon's lower slopes. The route takes you across rivers of black volcanic ash with the volcano above you. Lunch in Daraga. In the afternoon, a visit to Daraga Church, which sits on a hill with one of the best views of Mayon, and a stop at Lignon Hill Nature Park for a different angle.
Drive to Donsol
A two-and-a-half-hour drive south to Donsol, in Sorsogon. Lunch on the way. Afternoon at the firefly cruise on the Ogod River, which is best around dusk. The boats are small and the river is dark, and the fireflies fill the trees on both banks. Quiet evening at the resort.
Whale sharks
An early start for the whale shark interaction. Donsol is the only place in the Philippines where the whale shark tourism is regulated and ethical, with a strict no-touching policy and a limited number of swimmers per shark. The encounter happens in open water from a small boat. The afternoon is unstructured. Most people rest.
Departure
Transfer back to Legazpi airport for your onward flight, with a stop along the way for any final views of Mayon.
We don't sell Legazpi and Sorsogon as a fixed itinerary. The five days above is the trip we'd build for travelers who want both the volcano and the ocean. If you want to skip the ATV, add more time in Donsol, or pair this with another southern destination, that's the conversation we have on the call.
